Robert “Steve” Wade

1949-2007

My wife and I picked up this car in Conroe, Texas over Christmas 2006. It was to become a sturdy foundation for a build, so it went straight to Jimmy A. in Georgia to get my Tainter-built drivetrain from my old rusted out, frame tweaked, 89 TSI installed and ready to hit the road.

As soon as I got it back in the fall of 2007, I cleaned it up, dressed it up as best I could, and put it into daily driver status. I fixed it up as time permitted while still driving it daily. I straightened out the body and modified the rear bmper and ¼ panels to give it a little longer, sleeker look.

That kept me happy until the spring of 2009, when I was able to take it off daily driving status and finish it out properly. It got more bodywork and a custom one-off blue pearl paint job. The car also had a small back seat that never gets used, so the obvious choice was to tear out the back interior and fill it with stereo. After a little interior lighting and details, it was ready to get out and be seen
